What hydrolyzed collagen delivers to connective tissue
Collagen peptides are collagen broken into short fragments that absorb readily. They supply a distinctive amino acid mix heavy in glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline, the residues that make up the collagen triple helix. Beyond raw substrate, certain di- and tripeptides such as prolyl-hydroxyproline appear in blood after ingestion and may act as signals to fibroblasts, the cells that build tendon, ligament, and skin matrix.
Because it is low in some essential amino acids, collagen is a poor standalone protein for muscle but a targeted one for connective tissue.
Where the human evidence is strongest
The better-supported uses are tendon and joint comfort and skin elasticity, often studied with collagen taken roughly an hour before loading exercise. Effects are generally modest and the literature includes industry-funded trials, so expectations should stay measured.
This is general educational information, not medical advice. Collagen is not a treatment for joint disease. Consult a qualified professional for persistent joint or tendon pain.
