Different tissues recover on different clocks
Recovery is not a single timer. After hard training, several systems repair and replenish at different rates. Muscle glycogen can refill within roughly a day with adequate carbohydrate. Muscle fibers recovering from a demanding session often take one to several days, with more soreness and damage taking longer. The central nervous system, taxed by very heavy or highly skilled efforts, may need substantial rest before maximal output returns.
Tendons and other connective tissue adapt and recover more slowly than muscle, which is one reason loading them aggressively can outpace their ability to repair. These are general ranges, not fixed numbers, and they shift with intensity, volume, age, sleep, and nutrition.
Programming around the slowest link
Because systems recover unevenly, you can feel ready in one respect while another is still behind. Glycogen and mood might rebound while tendons or the nervous system lag. Sensible programming respects the slower-recovering tissues, which is part of why connective-tissue and joint stress often dictate how fast loading can progress.
